This role currently attracts a market supplement of £3,000 (pro -rata), reviewed annually. An AMHP allowance of £2800 (pro rata) will also be paid if the correct criteria are met. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified Service Manager for adult mental health services.This role will lead the social work teams within adult mental health services working with people over the age of eighteen who require secondary mental health care who have eligible care and support needs. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to actively develop and shape the service working collaboratively with our health colleagues and other partner agencies to support best practice and to deliver professional and expert services to the citizens of Cardiff. You will lead a progressive service using a strength based approach to your practice, working with people to promote and maximise independent living. We are seeking to recruit a Service Manager, who will be the strategic lead for our Adult Mental Health social work teams. The teams work across the communities of Cardiff. The post holder will be responsible for shaping the future delivery model, and developing services, procedures and ensuring that strength-based practice is central to this. You will be working in partnership with colleagues across the Council, Health, the private and Third Sector. This service is delivered through multidisciplinary teams and working collaboratively with citizens, unpaid carers, families, and colleagues wil be central to this . Proven experience of developing and strengthening relationships with partner agencies and colleagues is essential. You will have experience of leading and managing social care teams, and expertise in ensuring that teams work effectively to manage complex systems in a timely and professional way. You will have experience of leadership and managing staff in Social Work practice,
The role carries strategic responsibilities, and the successful candidate will need to have the ability to understand and interpret data and information and be able to manage and plan in an expansive service. You will be able to develop responses and consider use of services in a flexible way and be able to lead staff forward using collaboration and mentoring approaches., We are keen to recruit an individual with proven management experience to our service area. We are looking for an indivisual who is committed to putting our citizens at the heart of the work that we do and to develop teams and a service that focuses on a professional and compassionate response to our citizens.

  • You will be qualified as a social worker and be registered with Social Care Wales, and you will have a minum of five years post qualification experience and have a sound knowledge of the legislative framework in governing the social care arena and be able to support and guide team members as well as providing guidance for colleagues in the Council and other partners. You will be an Approved Mental Health Professional for which an additional allowance is paid. You will be able to understand the work of the service, deploy staff appropriately and think strategically to ensure the service is best placed to continue its work

The successful candidate will be equipped to represent the Local Authority effectively in complex discussions with partners and other stakeholders. You must be analytical, proactive, solutions focussed, with a commitment to continuous service development of social work practice and effective risk management. You must be able to create and deliver effective partnership working with

  • focussed outcomes and be able to engage, support, challenge and deliver change. You must be able to empower your staff to provide services to the highest standard. Be a strong strategic leader who values their team and the vision to support people.
  • You will be committed to a strength-based approach in social work and will encourage and develop that approach in the service area ensuring a foundation and structure that supports practice. You will be committed to encouraging staff to undertake training, peer support sessions and supervision and will promote this in the service. Your experience has developed your ability to be calm and approachable able to manage through challenge You will be able to evidence experience of working in a pressured environment. and demands. The ability to speak other languages, in particular Welsh, and Community Languages would be an advantage.
