Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and pro-active receptionist to join the team based in Rowhedge and University of Essex Medical Practice. The role is for 33 hours a week, and the role will be split between both Rowhedge Surgery and The University of Essex Medical Practice.
Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • booking appointments,

  • greeting patients,

  • answering queries from patients and outside agencies and/or signposting to appropriate members of staff,

  • updating patient records,

  • processing correspondence,

  • liaising with patients using various different types of communication methods.

    You will have a good standard of education including Maths and English.

  • You will have experience of working and providing customer services, ideally within a busy reception/public environment. Experience of working in general practice/primary care will be an advantage but training will be given to a suitable candidate.

  • The role requires excellent communication skills and good social skills. You will have a friendly and positive approach towards patients and other visitors both in person and over the telephone.

  • You will need to have strong IT skills and be able to use computer based systems. Experience of EMIS would be desirable, however full training will be given to a suitable candidate.

  • You will also need to have flexibility to cover other shifts.

    The Colte Partnership is a GP super-partnership, formed in June 2017. It brought together 9 local GP surgeries across Colchester and Tendring, serving approx.98,000 patients. With the combined workforce, skills and knowledge, we are in a unique position to assist our patients across the county.


  • As well as General Practice, we offer Extended Access appointments to enable all of our patients to access medical care at evening and weekends; we work collaboratively with external agencies to provide in home services and social prescribing; we are working to be at the forefront of clinical research; and have many more exciting ventures on the horizon.

    We also work as three collaborative primary care networks (PCNs) which span across Colchester and Tendring:
  • Ambrose Avenue Group Practice, Riverside Medical Centre & Ardleigh Surgery

  • Mersea Island Medical Practice, Tiptree Medical Centre & Rowhedge Medical Centre

  • Walton Medical Centre, Colne Medical Centre & Wivenhoe Medical Centre


  • There is a wide socio-economic and demographic served within this area which will provide an interesting and varied case mix. You will be joining an enthusiastic team of clinicians and administrators. You will be well supported with on-going professional development (training support, CPD and peer support). The role will contribute to the improving quality of care of our patients across the network of practices.
