Full Job Description

To provide strong and focused statistical and investigative support to the Operational Analytical and Technical Team in a busy toxicology laboratory.

To assist the toxicology department in the assessment of Quality Control charts to ensure the legislative standards of testing are upheld. To assist in the identification and investigation of bias changes, trends and failures within the QC system. To carry out limit reviews in compliance with FSR and UKAS Lab 51 standards.

When called on, to provide practical support to the analytical team.,


  • Ensuring the Quality Control charts are compliant with ISO17025, the FSR Codes of Practice and Conduct and industry standard toxicology guidelines.
  • To identify and investigate bias changes, trends and failures within the QC system.

  • To record investigations in the Quality Management System and where required carry out corrective and preventative actions.

  • Collaborating with external suppliers when required.

  • Reporting to upper management on quality standard issues.

  • Ensuring review schedules are maintained.

  • A champion for quality who provides advice and support to the toxicology department where necessary, with the investigation of any quality related issues.

  • Provide appropriate paperwork for compliance to the Quality Management System.

  • To support the department with writing or revising standard quality control operating procedures for the organization.

  • To participate in internal/external assessments and audits where necessary.

  • Assisting the toxicology laboratory operational workflow when required., As an employee of Key Forensic Services Ltd., the employee has a duty to:

  • Suspend activities where H&S of staff is being, or is likely to be, compromised

    Strong IT capability to include Microsoft Office and excel with an ability to analyse data.
  • Good numerical skills and an understanding of statistics including uncertainty of measurements.

  • Technically minded and the ability to problem solve effectively.

  • A thorough understanding of good laboratory practice (including ISO17025 and FSR CoPC) and anti-contamination protocols is essential.

  • Customer focussed with demonstrable commercial acumen.

  • Analytical thinking, including planning and scheduling.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • To ensure traceability, regulatory compliance and analytical performance.

  • A drive to continuously improve processes for improved performance.

  • Basic understanding of Westguard rules.

  • Preferable experience with QC monitoring software e.g. AQC Tools, Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of casework in the context of the Criminal Justice System.
