Full Job Description

Pretoria Energy seeks to recruit a Trainee Laboratory Technician to join our in-house laboratory team working across our anaerobic digestion (AD) and CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) production facilities. The role is key to ensuring high quality, optimum CO2 and biogas production and delivery of our vision to champion carbon-neutral green energy.

Training is available for the right person. The role would suit thorough and methodical individuals with a scientific interest in laboratory work, who would like to develop their interests in a commercial environment.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager you will be involved with:

  • Monitoring anaerobic digestion (AD) plant parameters such as pH, %DS (Dry Solids), alkalinity ammonia, VFA (Volatile Fatty Acids) & biogas quality

  • Extensive CO2 sampling and testing to Food & Beverage standards

  • Being a specialist in Quality Control and laboratory control & process optimisation

  • Ensuring lab sampling of all streams of CO2 and AD plant operation and communicate result to the operations team

  • Input laboratory result into business system to generate reports on CO2 and AD plant performance

  • Managing laboratory inventory such that the site never runs out of re-agents needed to conduct analysis

  • Calibration of instruments to ensure consistent and accurate data

  • Ensure laboratory cleanliness and hygiene in conformity with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)

  • As the business expands, there will be testing for the Food manufacturing sector

  • Other tasks and duties as required

    Science focused academic background with strong understanding of Chemistry and Biology

  • Good working knowledge of a laboratory environment and best practice

  • Ability to identify and interpret trends and abnormalities in test results with attention to detail

  • Experience of scientific testing and analysis in sectors such as Agriculture, Pharma, Food industry or similar environment would be desirable but not essential.

  • Anaerobic Digestion experience would be desirable but not essential.

    Competitive salary depending on experience.

  • 20 days annual leave + Bank Holidays

  • Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 4pm. However, working hours require flexibility to accommodate production and testing schedules.
