Full Job Description

With such a varied portfolio, there is never a dull day in the Estates Team here at Reading. As well as being responsible for the management and maintenance of the University's academic teaching and research buildings, we also care for a significant collection of Champion Trees, an expansive lake and the university SportsPark.

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and flexible individual to join the Maintenance Services team as Contracts Managers, within Estates.

The post holder will be responsible for the procurement and delivery of maintenance contracts, which are largely in support of the planned preventative maintenance programme. They will ensure that maintenance contracts are delivered to specification, within budget within a safety conscious and complex multi-stakeholder environment. You will have the technical ability to manage the programme in a manner that provides a safe, reliable & cost-effective service.

You will be required to manage our designated external contractors in our complex and varied estate which reflects the University's statutory responsibilities.

You will have:

  • A background in building services

  • Proven contract management skills

  • Experience in procurement practices and legislative knowledge which can be applied to tender and contract processes

  • A commercial approach with the ability to ensure that contracts are delivered within budget

  • Experience of managing planned, preventive maintenance programme and works in a varied estate

  • Awareness of current statutory requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage with a range of stakeholders

  • A positive and proactive approach to managing Health & Safety and for promoting its importance in contracts management and how to apply this in a varied estate

  • Good IT Knowledge with experience of using CAFM systems and Microsoft Office package
