Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellow to join our Neuro-Oncology team on a 12-month fixed-term basis. This is a post aimed at a pre/post CCT Neurosurgeon who would like to get additional experience in Neuro-Oncology.
The neurosurgery department is an established department with a team of nine Consultants with subspecialties in Neuro-Oncology, Vascular,
Pituitary, Skull base and Spine. The department provides Neurosurgical services to the adult population of Coventry, Warwickshire and North
Worcestershire.
UHCW is a designated major trauma centre for Coventry, Warwickshire and Northampton, a designated cancer centre and hyper
acute Stroke unit.
N.B. We reserve the right to close a vacancy before the closing date if we receive a high volume of applications or if there has been a change in organisational priorities., To provide, in collaboration with clinical colleagues, a comprehensive Neurosurgery service to patients in the Coventry and Warwickshire area.
This will include ensuring that all appropriate waiting lists and waiting times are adhered to; that services are provided in an effective and efficient
manner and that the principles of risk management and clinical governance are maintained at all times. Whilst this position is not a formal RCS
approved fellowship, the successful applicant will be given the opportunity to work alongside the existing Neuro-oncology surgeons to obtain
experience and skills in a range of Neuro-oncology procedures including:

  • Image guided brain biopsy

  • Day case Neuro-oncology surgery

  • Image guided Intra-axial brain tumour debulking/resection

  • Ultrasound guided tumour resections

  • 5 ALA guided resections

  • Awake craniotomy

  • Cortical and subcortical mapping

  • Resection of supratentorial, infratentorial and spinal benign lesions

  • Weekly attendance at Neuro-oncology MDT & Neuro-oncology Clinics with close liaison with Neuro-oncology Clinical Nurse Specialists., UHCW NHS Trust, by virtue of its Green Plan, is committed to ensuring that the way we provide services minimises the impact on the environment and the future health of the public e.g. zero waste to landfill, reducing our carbon footprint and increasing our recycling and reuse percentages.

    Depending on you level of exposure with patients you may be required to undertake a Standard or Enhanced DBS. The cost of this check will be charged to you and will be deducted from your salary over the first 3 months of employment at the current rate.
