Full Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate Resettlement Advisor to join our team and provide essential support to male ex-offenders in maintaining their mental health and overall wellbeing. As a Resettlement Advisor, you will play a crucial role in assisting ex-offenders in managing their mental health conditions, building resilience, and accessing appropriate support services. Due to the nature of our service users and safety measures, this position is limited to male applicants.,

  • - Provide one-to-one support to male ex-offenders, tailored to their individual mental health and wellbeing needs.

  • - Conduct mental health assessments and develop personalised support plans for each client.

  • - Facilitate access to appropriate mental health and wellbeing services within the secure environment.

  • - Collaborate closely with DWP and healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive support for clients.

  • - Offer guidance on coping strategies, stress management techniques, and self-care practices.

  • - Advocate on behalf of ex-offenders to ensure their mental health needs are addressed effectively within the probation system.

  • - Maintain accurate records of interactions and interventions with ex-offenders, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.

    - Previous experience in providing mental health or wellbeing support services, preferably within a prison, probation or secure environment.

  • - Understanding of mental health conditions commonly experienced by prisoners, such as anxiety, depression, and trauma.

  • - Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidelines governing mental health support within the probation system.

  • - Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with male prisoners from diverse backgrounds.

  • - Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including probation staff and healthcare professionals.

  • - Commitment to upholding professional standards and ethical principles in the provision of support services.

  • - Willingness to undergo security clearance and adhere to strict confidentiality protocols.

  • - Flexibility to adapt to the dynamic and challenging nature of working with ex-offenders.


  • Desired:
  • - Qualifications or training in mental health, counselling, social work, or a related field.

  • - Experience working with male prisoners, ex-offenders or individuals with complex needs in a similar capacity.

  • - Familiarity with evidence-based interventions and therapeutic approaches for addressing mental health issues.

  • - Understanding of trauma-informed care principles and their application within the criminal justice system.

    As a provider of support services for high-risk ex-offenders, our organisation must adhere to specific regulations and restrictions regarding the gender of staff working with ex-offenders.
