Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Managing Editor or the right Senior Project Editor to join the H&S Editorial team. Working on some of the biggest and most exciting non-fiction books in the business, you will oversee our diverse list of mono and colour books, managing the project editorial team and ensuring that our books publish on schedule and within budget.

We are looking for someone with a deep understanding of the editorial process, and a passion for managing and supporting editorial teams to create books of the highest quality.

Reporting to the Exec. Director of Publishing Operations, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing three members of the project editorial team.

  • Overseeing the publishing programme for Non-fiction and Yellow Kite, from accepted manuscript to final files, allocating and balancing work across the department.

  • Project editing selected titles from manuscript to final files, maintaining high quality standards and keeping to budgets.

  • Maintaining the freelance database, recommending suitable freelancers and ensuring freelancers are working to a high standard.

  • Ensuring editorial best practice across all imprints and maintaining high editorial standards as well as meeting deadlines.

    We are looking for a motivated candidate who can demonstrate extensive knowledge of a book's life, with experience that covers illustrated as well as narrative publishing. You will have management experience and a passion for organisation and smooth-running processes.


  • The ideal candidate will be an excellent problem solver, with a meticulous eye for detail and good communication skills, forging strong relationships with the editorial teams, freelancers and other departments.

    £35,000 - £45,000 dependent on experience (+bonus +benefits),

  • The role will be based at our London office, Carmelite House, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.
