Full Job Description

As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our visitors in and around our lake. You will need to be focused, vigilant and proactive, but more than that, we're looking for lifeguards who embrace The Wave's core values and can provide an unrivalled customer service.

Our Lifeguards:

  • Following departmental H&S rules & procedures confidently

  • Have a comprehensive understanding of all surf sessions, experiences & wave settings

  • Maintaining a satisfactory swim time and completing regular timed swims

  • Attending regular training

  • Confidently manage session safety and flow to ensure the best and safe experience

  • Demonstrate and deliver high levels of customer service to our visitors

  • Champion the departmental standards

  • Complete Surf Ops training to support the department in the day to day running

  • Demonstrate knowledge of other departments, to be able to assist visitors with their enquiries


  • This is a customer facing role and you will appreciate the importance of providing a friendly, supportive service. You'll play a key role with in a large, surf operations team and will be expected to assist in other areas of the department when required, such as the surf desk.

    Our Lifeguards must be beach lifeguard qualified and have a clean DBS record. Our ideal Wavemaker will have excellent communication skills, be calm under pressure, have strong attention to detail and a proactive mind set - a 'can-do' attitude is essential!

    The Wave, Bristol, are recruiting Lifeguards for our 2024 summer season. We have fixed-term and casual roles available.

  • Our 180m long lake is powered by Wavegarden. This ground-breaking technology can generate up to 1,000 quality waves per hour, ranging from 50cm (1.7ft) to almost 2m (6.5ft) in height. We can produce a new wave every 8-10 seconds.
