Full Job Description

Reporting to the General Manager - Teesworks, the HSSEQ Manager will be responsible for ensuring the workplace is a safe environment for the employees and site users at a quayside operations facility. They will proactively ensure the site is legally compliant with UK health and safety legislation. Duties include (but not limited to):

  • Providing technical, management and supervisory support to the HSSEQ function in Teesworks.


  • Implementing and maintaining ASCO's Integrated Management Systems (AIMS) and the associated HSSEQ policies, procedures and processes.


  • Establishing and maintaining key working relationships with the regulatory authorities and other external stakeholders in the region.


  • Overseeing the incident investigation and management process from commencement to completion, thereby ensuring the completion of investigations within a timely manner on Livesafe Gateway.


  • Use of and monitoring the Pisys, Sevron and Barbour systems ensuring compliance with requirements and regulations.


  • Supporting the tendering process through the compilation of high quality HSSEQ submissions within specified deadlines.


  • Supporting operations to deliver excellence in HSSEQ performance through the development of a proactive safety culture and legal compliance.


  • Interfacing with worksite management teams to address issues of non-conformance concerning ASCO's policies, procedures and safe systems of work.


  • Undertaking and monitoring site verification audits ensuring that all actions are closed out within specified deadlines.


  • Interfacing with Appropriate Industry Bodies as and when required.


  • Attending client monthly and Quarterly Performance Reviews and events

  • Computer literacy - proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Demonstrable experience in a customer-focused environment.


  • Excellent communicator with good inter-personal skills.


  • Ability to produce work to a high standard within set deadlines and under pressure.

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) or degree qualified in a safety or risk management related subject


  • Chartered Membership of IOSH (or working towards) or Member of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management


  • Lead/Internal Auditor QMS/EMS/SMS.


  • UK Driving Licence

    A current Biometric Immigration Document (Biometric Residence Permit) issued by the Home Office to the holder which indicates that the named person can currently stay in the UK and is allowed to do the work in question
    A current Immigration Status Document containing a photograph issued by the Home Office to the holder with a valid endorsement indicating that the named person may stay in the UK, and is allowed to do the type of work in question, together with an official document giving the person's permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a Government agency or a previous employer
    An Application Registration Card issued by the Home Office stating that the holder is permitted to take the employment in question
