Nursing is a rewarding career, with the chance to make a significant difference to people's lives. Communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as are demonstrating the Health Board values through everything you do.

There are pay increments (subject to change in line with the Agenda for Change pay reviews) associated with passing your Gateway Review, once competencies have been met your pay will reflect the skills demonstrated., Working alongside registered nurses and other health care professionals, this programme will give you an insight into health care at an introductory level to begin, involving working with a mentor within patient areas, preparing and delivering care to patients.

This role will allow you to become familiar with the layout of the hospital, as well as the standards expected within a healthcare environment. You will interact with patients and develop your communication skills, whilst displaying the qualities needed to become a nurse.

Throughout all of this, you will still be supported by your mentor, the college, and the Apprenticeship Academy team.

As your role progresses, your competencies will increase in line with your learning.
