Full Job Description

Your role will be to work in partnership with all professionals in order to achieve the optimum outcomes for all children and young people.

In the absence of the Registered Manager you will deputise for them and ensure that the home continues to be managed effectively on a day to day basis & that there is no disruption to the service as a result of their absence.

In this Management Position you will be flexible towards your hours; you will not leave the home in an unsafe situation regardless of your working hours/shift. You will be a role model for all staff at all times; this means that you will present yourself professionally in all situations and without exception promote the vision, ethos and expectations set by the Registered Manager.

You will be responsible for the overall management of your allocated Senior Support Workers; you will however ensure that you offer support and guidance to staff in all roles within the home.

You will ensure the highest quality of service is provided for children and young people through person centred Positive Behaviour Support, Care plans and Therapeutic input. You will ensure staff are encouraged and supported to achieve and exceed their full potential; addressing any staffing approaches that differ from those set by the Registered Manager.

To have a proactive visible presence within the Orchid House, challenging poor practice and celebrating achievements of children, young people and staff.

You will be responsible for working closely with Senior Support Workers and others within the Senior Management Team to ensure that there is effective motivation of the residential staff team, maintaining and improving the quality of the service delivery to meet and exceed the standards OFSTED and the Childrens Home Regulations 2015, and exceed the expectations of our Stakeholders such as Commissioners and Parents/Families and to build upon the home's reputation.

Regulatory

  • To develop and maintain pro-active working relationships with our regulators Ofsted;

  • To ensure compliance with Regulatory Standards and Guidelines; Including the Childrens Homes Regulations 2015 and the quality standards.

  • To ensure that statutory reports are submitted within required timescales;

  • To ensure that the home meets all relevant health and safety legislation including the Health and Safety at work act 1974


  • Main Duties & Responsibilities
  • To ensure that adequate support and direction is given to all members of the residential staff team so that they may carry out their delegated duties effectively;

  • To maintain a system of structured supervision of staff which is both evaluative and developmental and one which promotes good practice; providing monthly data on the compliance rates for each Home;

  • To proactively engage in a system for staff appraisal which enables staff members to receive an annual appraisal through the group performance and development review process;

  • To be accountable for the fulfilment care allocations and rota's and ensuring that staff skills and knowledge are evenly distributed across all time periods;

  • To be responsible for maintaining the homes On-Call rota and as such take part in the On-Call system to ensure adequate levels of staffing are available at all times and that support is on offer out of hours;

  • To ensure that all policies, procedures and practices reflect the importance and value of the individual. Through consultation with the Registered Manager it is your task to develop, challenge and change any policies, procedures or practice which does not reflect or promote the ethos of the home and ensure that they successfully reflect good practice and expectations of Ofsted and legal guidance;

  • To ensure that all children, young people and adults are treated with dignity and respect, in an environment which reflects the importance of and their rights as individuals;

  • To set high expectations for all and ensure that every necessary step is taken to protect children and young people from unintentional or intentional neglect, abuse and exploitation;

  • To maintain strict confidentiality in regards to all information shared with you in relation to this management role and without exception support key messages agreed by the senior management team;

  • To co-ordinate and monitor casework and administrative functions of the homes and evaluate standards of performance in line with high level audits and quality assurance;

  • To be involved in recruitment of staff across all roles, including vetting, interviewing and induction;

  • To chair meetings, reviews and discussions as necessary in the absence of the Registered Manager

  • To ensure that the Company's financial and administrative procedures are adhered to and to work within a set budget;

  • To promote appropriate and therapeutic relationships between staff, children and their families, promoting the students involvement and participation in day-to-day life;

  • To ensure that the physical state of the buildings are audited and maintained to a high standard and that all repair/maintenance problems are evidenced and dealt with promptly;

  • To ensure that safe working practices are employed by all staff at all times in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work legislation. Will co-operate with designated personnel exercising their responsibilities in relation to the Health and Safety at Work Act;

  • To provide data support to the Registered Manager for the completion of the service reports, The development Plan, Reg 45 reports, The Statement of Purpose, Ofsted action plans and any other required documents;

  • To work with HR to manage staff issues related to; recruitment, supervision, disciplinary or grievance or any other matters that need to be managed or resolved through this route;

  • To line-manage the Senior Support Workers to ensure the efficient running of their homes, and to create an atmosphere conducive to the best interests of children and young people;

  • To provide good quality supervision & performance management to the Senior Support Workers, conducting regular auditing of the home & follow-up visits to ensure good practice is continually monitored & expected;

  • To spend the majority of your working time in the home to monitor the practice in the homes;

  • To promote a supportive, caring environment for all children and young people through high standards of professional practice which are conducive to their physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual needs;

  • To ensure that each student receives support and care appropriate to their individual need.

  • To be accountable Home Budgets, as agreed with the Finance Team, under the supervision of the Registered Manager;

  • To be accountable for staff performance on a daily basis. This includes, but is not restricted to - managing attendance, timeliness for shift, conduct and professionalism, capability;

  • To be accountable for health and safety issues relating to you, Children, staff and visitors to the homes ensuring the latter have appropriate authority and supervision;

  • To ensure a regular audit programme covering applicable subject matter in both clinical and non-clinical areas is in place, that resultant issues are resolved and a re-audit programme is set in motion.

  • To provide support for the children and young people in accordance with their personal needs and choices as set out in PBS, support & action plans, risk assessments and other guidance as well as arising in the day to day living;

  • To build friendly professional relationships with children and young people's families and all professionals involved in their placement;

  • To undertake and regularly review PBS, care and support needs assessments, support plans, risk assessments and other plans as required by the Registered Manager, and ensure implementation of all plans;

  • To ensure that the support plans are person centred and that an emphasis is placed on the individual choices of students;

  • To ensure sharing of support plan information among relevant co-workers;

  • To organise and document individual support meetings and house meetings as set out by the Registered Manager;

  • To manage within agreed budgets, accounting for any expenses, whether by cash or card, on a monthly basis and in accordance with Insight Care expectations;

  • To ensure that satisfactory systems for house hygiene and cleaning are in place and that broken house appliances or damage to house structures are reported and replaced;

  • To meet the time commitments and performance standards for the role and give reasonable notice so other arrangements can be made when this is not possible;

  • To actively participate in Management Team Meetings, Staff Team meetings and other multi-disciplinary team meetings to liaise and work with clinical colleagues & the child's school in planning, implementing and evaluating care interventions for children and young people thus ensuring a high standard of care in accordance with best practice, governance and clinical effectiveness;

  • To ensure staff are supported when dealing with the most complex cases, particularly when children and young people are in crisis and exhibiting more challenging behaviours;

  • To constantly review childrens' care and ensure their needs are met holistically;

  • To be accountable for the ordering and auditing process for medication for homes under the supervision of the Registered Manager;


  • Administrative Duties
  • To report and record mishaps, accidents and complaints in accordance with procedures;

  • To keep those records up to date that are required by the Registered Manager, including financial records, menus, Communication systems, medical records, etc.

  • To contribute to the effectiveness of communication within the home and wider service;

  • To maintain confidentiality of childrens' personal records, co-worker supervision and all appraisals - including any disciplinary procedures;


  • Training
  • To ensure appropriate and professional opportunities for staff within their clear sphere of responsibility in line with the Company's training expectations;

  • To identify training needs for your staff team, in line with the needs of the service and liaise with the training coordinator;

  • To where required deliver training and development to staff within the home, providing a review of training requirements and d training packages that are to the benefit of the service;

  • To do all you reasonably can to obtain and maintain sufficiently good physical health to be able to undertake team teach training and annual re-accreditation;

  • To obtain and maintain at all times accreditation in the team teach system, including compliance timelines and refresher programs.

  • To continue to professionally develop yourself in order to improve the knowledge and skills you have and to improve those of your colleagues & the service;
