Full Job Description

Join us as Commissioning Editor and drive the growth of our law publications. You'll work as part of a global team and be responsible for identifying and securing new titles that align with our strategic publishing goals.

About the role

You will commission an agreed portfolio of new products targeted at both the research and teaching community. You will be collaborating with a lively team of editors based in the UK and USA.

You will manage a substantial backlist of titles. The list is recognised as one of the top academic lists in the world, and you will have the chance to be an important voice in shaping its future development to ensure it continues to meet the diverse needs of researchers and instructors at a time of great change in the publishing landscape. The academic law list covers several sub fields within law with many of its publications dealing with urgent public policy issues.

You will utilise your expertise to evaluate proposals, conduct market research, and manage author relationships to ensure timely delivery of content. Stay ahead of the curve by maintaining knowledge of market trends and competitor activities.

You will negotiate contracts, determine pricing strategies, and strengthen our network within key academic institutions.

Someone that combines the intellectual confidence to engage with current trends and debates in the academic law community with the analytical and organisational skills to manage a large list to ensure it meets its financial targets.

You will need to be a self-confident networker both in person and in virtual environments, and you will demonstrate a commitment to collaboration.

You will have a demonstrated interest in the publishing arena and experience of working in academic law publishing. Experience with scholarly publishing and knowledge of primary publishing models across print and digital media.

You will be highly organised and responsive when dealing with authors and be passionate about continuous learning.
