Full Job Description

This Assistant Technical Officer post offers an exciting opportunity to develop your laboratory skills. As a Band 3 Assistant Technical officer, you will participate in the laboratory testing procedures and provide technical support to Scientific staff with the Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology department.
We are an IBMS accredited training laboratory committed to education, training and clinical excellence. We offer excellent training programmes for IBMS registration and specialist portfolios and beyond. All staff are actively encouraged to develop themselves and assist in the education of others. If you are in the process of working towards your IBMS registration portfolio then you may be considered for this post (please state on application)., You will be responsible for receipt of pathology specimens and preparation for analysis. Also you will be running the analysers, including completing any required maintenance and processing patients samples, under the guidance of biomedical scientists. You will assist in the development of trainee staff within a progressive department where active participation in developing our service is encouraged.
The department has a strong ethos of quality management, with Peterborough City Hospital being the first NHS laboratories to gain single UKAS/ISO15189:2012 accreditation across the whole Pathology department. We are a progressive laboratory where individuals are actively encouraged to have involvement in the continual improvement and development of our service.

You will also need to be enthusiastic, highly motivated, flexible and have good attention to detail. The ideal candidate will also be computer literate and familiar with working to ISO15189 standards. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in a rota which provides extended hours support for the laboratory service.
