Full Job Description

What it's like to work here:Based at our Coniston office, you'll spend eight months in the high fells of the Lake District and the remaining winter months delivering for the South Lakes National Trust property team. Reporting to the South Lakes Countryside Manager, you'll lead and develop a Ranger and two Assistant Rangers while engaging a huge volunteer base.

You'll represent the Fix the Fells partnership, balancing your commitment to advocacy, great people management, compliance and outstanding conservation with a dynamic practical works programme of your own design.

We are passionate about caring for the fells, and it's an inspiring and energising team to be part of. We want you to learn, discover and develop in your career, and will support you to plan your development in a way that's right to meet your needs.

What you'll be doing:You'll have responsibility for erosion control on a quarter of the Lake District's upland paths, including iconic Striding Edge and the Old Man of Coniston. Recognising erosion problems, you'll have a broad palette of upland path repair techniques on hand to control them, preserving upland habitats through a range of practical solutions, sometimes bold but always sensitive.

You'll have the knowledge to navigate nature and landscape designations, multiple stakeholder concerns, risk management, funding requirements, ecology, farming and cultural heritage considerations in devising an effective work programme. You'll also have the people management skills and practical know-how to build relationships and drive delivery of high standard practical work.

You'll work methodically, delivering projects for property and partnership. Able to manage your time and workload, you'll enjoy the variety offered by balancing the office with the outdoors, and the resilience to consistently lead by example. Please note a full UK driving licence is needed for the role.,
